.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved box...
but rather to slide in broadside, thoroughly used up and loudly proclaim "WOW what a ride!"

Do's and Don'ts When a Co-Worker (or Friend) is Laid Off
as heard on "Good Morning America"
Don'ts

- Don't say "It's Not Fair" (of course it's not)

- Don't say "Don't Worry" - it's normal to worry, their paycheck is ending that day. Don't minimize those feelings.

- Don't Avoid them - Don't allow them to go it alone. Let them know you're there for them, don't hide from them or avoid them just because you might not know what to say.
Do's

- Listen, let them blow off steam, even if you don't have any answers for them. It helps to know someone cares.

- Help with thier job hunt - look up resources you have, open up your rolodex or address book of contacts. Introduce them to people you know. Help with their resume. Meet them for coffee to help brainstorm with them.

- Keep in touch! 2 days, 2 weeks, 2 months from then.. they are likely to still be unemployed.. let them know they aren't alone. Remind them what they are good at. Staying at home people tend to forget or lose their self-confidence.
